Orange France to Offer Deezer’s Premium Music Service
Date: September 3, 2010 | No Comments
(Prices in Euros €)
Deezer, a free music streaming service based in France, has become very popular in France thanks to licensing
agreements with Sony and Universal. In 2009, Deezer launched ”Deezer Premium+”, the first global streaming solution for unlimited music at home or on the move. 86% of the service’s users report that they are “highly satisfied.”
This autumn, Orange will begin offering its clients “Deezer Premium Music“, the first Internet and mobile offer integrating “Deezer Premium+”. This exclusive Orange offer provides access to a wide variety of music at an attractive price.
Deezer’s premium service includes a €4.99 monthly subscription, through which subscribers can access the on-demand service in a higher quality (up to 320 kbps) and without advertising, and a €9.99 package offering the same features plus access to De
ezer’s full service on compatible mobile devices. Additionally, Orange clients will get a preferential rate when purchasing songs on MP3 at the Orange Music Store: €0.69 per title instead of standard prices of €0.99 or €1.29.
Tarifica’s Take:
This is a very interesting deal
for Orange, which is trying to gain control over music distribution via mobile in France. Now that mobile music streaming is becoming more popular, all the players are racing to gain control over the distribution pipeline. Apple is expected to launch its “iTunes Streaming” service in September, while the next release of Android (3.0 – Gingerbread) is expected to debut with Google Music, a new music sync service for Android.
With this offer, Orange is offering a carrier-based alternative to their users that give them better terms not only for music streaming but also for purchasing songs at prices lower than available through iTunes Store in France.
