Belgian MVNO Mobile Vikings announced a new offer for customers to convert unused minutes into additional data for the next month. Each plan comes with a bundle of monthly off-net minutes. Each off-net minute unused during a given month will be converted to 5 MB valid during the following month. The operator stated that the conversion is automatic and that customers can check their extra data on their online account. The offer applies for customers who subscribe to the MVNO’s recently-introduced postpaid plans.

In the quest of operators to satisfy customer demand by offering ever-greater flexibility in their offerings, the idea of converting voice minutes to data is a worthy one. And with customers of all kinds consuming relatively more and more data, it is also a timely one. Instead of either a “use it or lose it” approach or a simple rollover, Mobile Vikings is allowing its postpaid customers to convert minutes to data. This will likely encourage greater data use while helping with customer retention. On the whole, this concept looks to us like a winner for the MVNO.
