Polish Operator Reports Increase in Triple Play Subscriber Base

Polish cable operator Multimedia Polska reported that it had a triple-play subscriber base of 120,000 at the end of 2012. This was 13 percent more than at the same time the previous year.

Tarifica’s Take

Multimedia Polska is clearly realizing a respectable level of success from its triple-play offer. However, we believe that other fixed-line operators, cable companies included, should go one step further. They should create “quadruple” plays by adding mobile services to the trifecta of voice, TV and high-speed internet access. Such a move will likely require a fixed line provider to start its own MVNO. We think it is well worth the effort. Even if the MVNO is not profitable (and that’s not to say it won’t be), the unified billing and single point of contact associated with a quadruple play has real utility for consumers and could help fixed line providers to, at the very least, slow down the shift from fixed to mobile. In short, quadruple plays are not something the typical MNO is in a position to provide, finally giving the fixed line operator a compelling offer vis-à-vis its mobile competitors.
