Tablet Users Account for a Growing Share of Website Traffic

A recent study by Adobe reports that, for the first time, websites are getting more web traffic from tablets than smartphones. While PCs and laptops still dominate web visitor statistics, 8% of visitors to websites worldwide now do so via a tablet. Furthermore, users with tablets viewed about 70% more pages per site visit than those with smartphones, and traffic from tablets doubled in 2012 in all countries surveyed – a trend that is expected to continue.

Tarifica’s Take

We think tablets are particularly good vehicles for viewing entertainment, since they are more portable and maneuverable than laptops and have larger screens than smartphones. The ever growing number of tablets out there, and their excellent suitability for viewing entertainment, reinforces our opinion about the benefits of moving into entertainment content development. By making the move now, mobile operators will be satisfying consumers’ growing hunger for entertainment on the go, while reinforcing their own brands. As we said, if cable companies, which run their own networks, can dive head long into content creation, there is no reason why MNOs, many of whom have networks with far greater reach than a typical cable operator, can’t do it as well.
