AT&T has become the exclusive provider in the U.S. of Filip, a wearable locator and voice watch for kids. The device works with a smartphone app and enables parents to track a child’s location. The device also includes voice calling and direct messaging features. Filip also allows parents to set Safe Zones, which send a notification if the child enters or leaves a designated area, and it features an emergency procedure to locate the child and put him or her in touch with family. AT&T will provide distribution and billing services for the product.
Tarifica’s Take
In MNOs’ ongoing search for non-traditional, customer-tailored services to add to the basics, some quite interesting and useful products have been developed. The Filip child locator is one of these. By partnering with the developer to provide the connectivity for it, AT&T is tapping into widespread and presumably pent-up demand. In addition, the product has the added appeal of novelty.
