Belgian Tablet Market Posts Double-Digit Drop in Sales

The tablet market in Belgium is declining, according to figures from Germany-based global market researcher GfK. While the market reached a peak of 1.3 million units sold in 2013, it has been contracting since the second quarter of 2014, ending last year down 20 to 30 percent.

The situation in Belgium is representative of a larger reality. Tablets as a category are suffering from slackening sales in many markets due to two major factors—lack of innovation leading to less need for users to upgrade models frequently, and competition from smartphones with ever-increasing screen size (“phablets”), as well as from hybrid notebook-tablets.
