Philippine operator Smart has launched two postpaid LTE plans. The LTE Plan 999 includes 3 GB of data per month, while LTE Plan 599 comes with 1.5 GB per month. These plans are available through a SIM-only subscription with no lock-in period. The operator has also launched the Huawei MediaPad 10 Link LTE tablet and the Asus Nexus 7 tablet for its LTE plans.
Tarifica’s Take
We think Smart is living up to its name by offering these tablets in tandem with its new plans, because LTE use and LTE adoption are driven by the presence of LTE devices. This strategy, which encourages customers to use more data by providing them with the technological means to do so, is a very solid one. If an operator is going to invest in high-speed networks, it should place compatible devices in the hands of as many of its subscribers as possible, in order to ensure that the investment pays off in data-use revenues.
