As part of its just-announced “UnCarrier 8.0” strategy, T-Mobile US has announced that beginning in January 2015, unused data from customers’ monthly allowances will be automatically rolled over into a personal Data Stash, to be used at will for up to one year. Data Stash is available at no additional charge to new and existing T-Mobile customers who have purchased a postpaid Simple Choice plan with additional LTE data (3 GB or more for smartphones and 1 GB or more for tablets). T-Mobile said will begin every Data Stash with a free 10 GB of LTE data.
This data rollover option should increase customer satisfactions levels, given that, according to the operator, it was created in direct response to over 40,000 requests from customers on Twitter. Beyond building goodwill, though, it should incentivize customers to buy more LTE data, since it is only available to postpaid customers who add extra data to their plans.
