Vodafone Netherlands announced that all customers will receive free data on 14 February. The Valentine’s offer is open to all prepaid and postpaid customers on the Vodafone and Sizz brands (except for a few business contracts). Customers with an existing data plan will not have the data they use on Valentine’s Day deducted from their allowances. Customers on Hollandsnieuwe, Vodafone Thuis and Vodafone Scherp S do not benefit from the offer, nor will MVNO or M2M customers of Vodafone.
These types of offerings may seem small-time, but experience shows that they can have significant positive effects for mobile operators. Vodafone Netherlands launched a similar offer over a two-day period at Christmas in 2015, and it actually caused a major spike in traffic on the operator’s network. Promotions such as this Valentine’s Day offering can lead subscribers to send a Valentine to the operator in terms of loyalty and retention.
